What is a Homily?
A homily is an oral presentation which is your priest's reflection on religious/liturgical topics that should be
common knowledge to most Roman Catholics attending Mass. Gathering insight from many external sources
and his personal experiences, the priest formulates his reflections. Therefore, these non-academic, spoken presentations infrequently cite specific references, and are not claimed to be totally original material. Using a conversational tone, the priest is attempting to provide insight and guidance, so as to provide his congregation
with ideas for meditation and the realistic application of the liturgical readings' messages. However, every effort
is always made to provide accurate footnotes for all direct quotes, and to cite sources for concepts and novel interpretations that the priest believes to be unfamiliar to his listeners.
